BOYS HOOPS: Sheffield tops Youngsville in consolation game

Host Sheffield came out on top over Youngsville in the consolation game of the Sheffield Sports Boosters Christmas Tournament Saturday night at Sheffield High School.

Seniors led the night for both teams. Noah Heeter topped Sheffield’s stat sheet with 14 points with Nic Confer right behind with 12 points including two three-pointers. For Youngsville, Collin Lehnen notched 15 points.

“We came out and we played well in the first half, and then-once again-we became undisciplined on the offensive side of things in the second half,” Youngsville coach Jim Kesterholt said. “We got some good shots, but they didn’t fall. It kind of snowballed from there.”

Sheffield hits 3-7 on the year with the win and Youngsville falls to 0-9.

“We’re working through things. It’s been a long time since we’ve had winning basketball at Youngsville and it’s going to take time. We’re still working at it every day,” Kesterholt said.

Cameron County topped Union 48-46 to win the tournament.
