BOYS HOOPS: Dragons, Knights bounced to consolation rounds

ST. BONAVENTURE (N.Y.)- The Warren boys fell to Olean, 89-54, in the first round of the 2013 I.I.A.B.O. Tournament Thursday night at St. Bonaventure University.

The Dragons were outscored in every quarter, yet found themselves within reach heading into the final frame, where the Huskies pulled away with a 24-8 advantage.

“We got behind early and made a couple nice runs to cut their lead to 10,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine, whose Dragons were defeated by Nichols School in the first round of last year’s tournament. “Once the fourth quarter started we stopped playing defense and became very undisciplined, which is a pattern we showed in our earlier loss. We were too sloppy late in the game, and they took it to us.”

With the loss, Warren drops to 4-2 overall.

Collin Fantaskey paced the Dragons with 19 points, Jake McBride scored nine, and Tanner Stanz added eight.

Warren will face a familiar opponent in Bradford in Friday’s consolation game at 2:30 p.m. The Dragons defeated the Owls, 76-41, one week ago. Bradford lost to Nichols in the tournament’s opener, 50-39.
