BOYS HOOPS: Wolverines drop road contest against St. Marys

ST. MARYS-The Sheffield Wolverines suffered a 75-42 loss at the hands of St. Marys in non-league basketball action Monday at St. Marys High School.

With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 2-5 on the year.

“We have absolutely no discipline at all when it comes to the fundamentals of basketball,” said Sheffield coach Tony Richards. “When they press, we turn the ball over. We aren’t disciplined running our offense with any continuity, and we have no help on our weak-side defense. Until we fix those things, we won’t win.”

The Dutchmen were dominant early, outscoring Sheffield 28-7 in the first quarter and 22-5 in the second.

Jimmy Vile paced the Wolverines’ attack with 13 points, while Nic Confer was close behind with 12.

Sheffield was defeated in the junior varsity game, 57-19. Jake Johnson and Adam Higby each had seven points in the loss.

The Wolverines will return to action on Friday, when they welcome Youngsville, Cameron County, and Union for the Sheffield Sports Boosters Christmas Tournament. Youngsville and Cameron County open things up at 6 p.m., with Sheffield taking on Union in the nightcap at 7:30. The championship and consolation game will be Saturday.
