Sheffield Twp.

The 2014 budget was adopted, which reflects a 1-mil tax increase in the fire millage and also a Street Light Assessment of $15 per parcel in Sheffield Township. The tax rates will be 8.75 mils, with 5.75 mils for general purposes and 3.00 mils for fire tax along with the Street Light Assessment of $15 per parcel. This is the first tax increase in Sheffield Township in about 30 years.

The raise in the fire millage had to be done because of the increase in Worker’s Compensation premium from $1,900 to $11,490, which is a policy for the fire department alone. This budget also reflects no pay increase this year for Township employees. When preparing the 2014 Budget, the Supervisors and Treasurer were very cautious with the income on the budget. The Forestry Earnings alone have dropped substantially. ?In 2004 the township received $135,189 while in 2011 the township received only $60,748. This year it is projected on the budget to only receive $60,000.

Sheffield Township Police reported that for the month of November he investigated 2 accidents, 7 theft complaints, 2 reports of suspicious persons, 5 disturbance calls, 6 harassment complaints, 5 noice complaints, 5 requests to check welfare of others, 1 assist to other agencies, 1 ATV complaint, 4 mental health calls, 2 trespass complaints, 3 traffic complaints, 5 traffic hazard complaints, 3 open doors found, 2 assault reported, 2 reports of suspicious vehicles, 2 property disputes reported, 3 child welfare incidents reported, 1 burglary reported, 1 domestic investigated and 3 child custody assists.

PennDOT forwarded the bidding limits for 2014. Purchases $0.01 – $10,299.99 no phone quotes or bidding necessary, Purchases $10,300.00 19,099.99 written or telephonic quotes required, Purchases $19,100 and up public bidding is required.
