WCCS splits at Erie First

ERIE-The Warren County Christian School Lady Lions defeated Erie First Christian for the second time this season, 54-14, while the boys suffered a 42-21 loss at the hands of the Eagles on Thursday night.

“The girls played outstanding,” said WCCS coach Tom Jones. “We were without our usual point guard, Dymphee Zortman, who was out sick. Alyssa Kerr stepped up and had a big night. She led us in points, assists, steals, and rebounds, but it was a tremendous team effort, too. The girls played very well as a group tonight.”

Kerr poured in 15 points, while Kaitlin Weidner and Desirae Kerr each had 10.

The Lions’ boys team suffered another setback, but continue to grow as a team according to Jones.

“A few of the boys had some of their better games,” said Jones. “We’re very young, and very inexperienced, but we’re making strides every game.”

Dan Lauffenburger led the Lions with eight points and Tommy Jones added six in the loss.

Warren County Christian School will be off for the rest of 2013, and will bring in the new year with a pair of games against Christian Life Academy on Jan. 3.
