WRESTLING: Sheffield shocks Coudersport

COUDERSPORT – Sheffield is leaving it all on the mat.

The Wolverines won their second straight match on Tuesday – this one in dramatic fashion, in a 41-36 win at Coudersport.

“The last couple of matches they are really improving,” said Sheffield coach Jack Rice. “They are starting to improve day-by-day.”

This win took a total team effort and a couple of shocking comebacks to pull it out.

“The biggest match of the night” was Dakota Schooler’s second-period pin of Ben Rogosta at 170 pounds. Schooler was trailing 10-0 before the pin at 3:40.

“That was huge; I wasn’t expecting that at all,” said Rice. “That was impressive.”

Another highlight was when Doug Grubbs reversed his opponent with 29 seconds left en route to a pin with six seconds left at 152 – to seal the match.

Brian Fries bumped up in weight – as the Wolverines have been doing all season -and pinned Nick Rogosta at 138.

“(Coudersport is) actually better this year,” said Rice, whose Wolverines are now 2-6 after an 0-6 start. “I had us down 15 points just on paper. They boys just wrestled with a lot of heart.”

Kyle Holden (132) earned a major decision, Ricky Prosen (145) a decision and Cody Anderson (195) a decision and Sheffield had enough bonus points for the team win.
