Tidioute First United Methodist Church will be hosting a $1 dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 18, starting at 6:30 p.m.

All are welcome to come an partake in this dinner, it is open to the public.

The church will provide the entire meal.

Santa coming

Santa will be at Buccardo’s Restaurant on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon.

If pictures are desired, please bring your own cameras.

Baked goods sale

ST John Ladies Guild will be holding a Holiday Bake Sale on Saturday, Dec. 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and after Mass on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 22 if any baked goods are still available.

Candlelight services

A Christmas Candlelight Carol Service will be held at the Swedish Union Church on Sunday evening Dec. 22 at 6 p.m.

Pastor Dale Timco of Allegheny Bible Church will present the message.

There will be carol singing in honor of he Savior’s birth, concluding with “Silent Night” accompanied by guitar and sung by candlelight in the darkened church.

The old tradition of presenting oranges and candy to those attending will be observed.

The church will be beautifully decorated with greens, and the community is invited to the service in this historic church.

Christmas Eve services

Tidioute First United Methodist Church will be holding Christmas Eve services at 11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24.

All are welcome to come and join in this special service.

The choir will singing and there will be low key music and candlelight.

Borough Council

Police Chief Steve Vincent reported traveling 642 miles and having four incidents.

Present were Tom Heenan, Ed Atwood and Casey Atwood. Heenan spoke in support of the Warren County Visitors Bureau and asked if Council members has any questions. The latest tally appears to be in favor of the Warren County Visitors Bureau at 52 %. Ed Atwood shared literature concerning the Warren County Winter Fest scheduled for January 17, 18, and 19 of 2014 at Chapman State Park. He also mentioned that the Rail Road grades owned by Penn Soil RC & D are for sale. Anyone interested in finding out where the grades are located may contact the Conservation District.

Casey Atwood stated he attended at least two township or borough meetings to gather information on the Tourist Bureau Issue.

Borough Manager Walt Snavley reported hearing from the Warren County Fire Police inquiring if their services will be needed for the 2014 WWII Re enactment. The borough will let them know that their services will be needed in 2014.

Also, Snavley has a copy of a proposed Cat and Dog Ordinance that Tionesta is in the process of adopting. Walt will be doing some more research on this matter to determine if Tidioute could benefit from such and ordinance.

The 2014 Budget was approved as advertised.

The 2012 Liquid Fuels audit is complete.

Steve Morrison was re-appointed to server on the Southwest Warren County Municipal Authority Board for another term.

CDBG projects for 2014, applications deadline is January 14, 2014. The sidewalks and paving of Johnson Street to the boat launch is a grant project for next summer. Walt will look into new street lights and wiring along Buckingham Street as a 2014 Grant Application.


Community Fund

Committee members of the Tidioute Area Community Fund would like to thank the community for their support in reaching the $50,000 mark.

The Tidioute Area Community Fund (TACF) is an endowment fund to support nonprofit organizations in the Tidioute Area. Their bylaws only permit them to make grants from the interest earned on this principal amount. They hope their earnings will allow them to make grants in the Spring of 2014.

This is a permanent fund and all donations to the TACF are for the exclusive benefit of non-profit organizations in the Tidioute area. The TACF exists as a component fund under the Community Foundation of Warren County, and therefore benefits from the Foundation’s tax exempt status and investment experience.

They are excited about the future of Tidioute, and encourage citizens, visitors and Tidioute natives, wherever they reside, to join them in supporting the fund through bequests and donations. Gifts of any size are welcome and will allow them to distribute grants in the future.

Donations can be mailed to Post Office Box 6, Tidioute, PA 16351. Checks are to be made out to “Community Foundation of Warren County” -but all donations will be for the benefit of non-profits organizations in the Tidioute Area.

Deerfield Township

Deerfield Township need a Emergency Management Coordinator and a Building Inspector. Any resident interested please contact the Deerfield Township Secretary at 814-563-4047 or come to the next township meeting on January 6, 2014 at 7 p.m. at the Deerfield Township building.

Garbage pick-up

Tidioute Borough residents will need to place their trash bags to the curb on Friday, Dec. 27, and again on Friday, Jan. 3.

Trash pick-up will be on Friday due to Christmas and New Years.

Borough office hours

Tidioute borough will close at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and reopen on Monday, Dec. 30 due to Christmas on Wednesday.

Free Throw


Tidioute Knights of Columbus will sponsor Youth Free Throw Championship.

All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2014 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local completion will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Tidioute Community Charter School.

The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with the winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the Knights of Columbus International Headquarters based on scores from the state level competitions.

All boys and girls age 10 to age 14 years old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions.

Last year more than 130,000 sharpshooters participated in over 3,000 local competitions.

All contests on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent.

Troop Box Program

Tidioute Community Charter School ran their annual collection of items for the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 8803 Military Troop Box Program.

Under the direction of Mrs. Guerra they were very successful.

Students presented the items collected to the Ladies Auxiliary project chairperson Doris Svitek and co chairperson Kathy Matie.

Second grade won this year for most items donated.

District 19

Special Meeting

A special meeting of District 19 Ladies Auxiliary of VFW will be held at the Forest County Veterans Club, North Route 66, Marienville. on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014.

The business to be taken care of is the Election and Installation of the offices of District President, SR Vice President, and Junior Vice President.

Registration of District Delegates will be at 1 p.m. with the above business scheduled at 2 p.m. promptly.


Tidioute Sports Boosters will hold a Christmas Tree Burning Bonfire on Friday, Jan. 10, at Tidioute ballfield at 7 p.m.

There will be $5 charge for each tree and all proceeds will benefit the Tidioute Sports Boosters.

Socks and underwear

Tidioute First United Methodist Church has joined forces with Grace United Methodist and Covenant United Methodist Church of Warren, Otterbein in Pittsfield, Corry First and Tionesta United Methodist, to do a Christmas Sermon series entitled, “Socks and Underwear”.

Tidioute First United Methodist church is hanging socks on the tree in the foyer and will donate all the items to local clothing ministries such as Goodwill and Love Inc.

If you would like to donate new socks and new underwear to the cause, please contact the pastor at Tidioute 484-7721 or Mary Huntington at 484-7766 to donate.

Food Commodity

Each month Tidioute has a Food Commodity distribution provided by the Salvation Army and the food is delivered to Tidioute Towers.

Those who have signed up for the food can pick up from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the kitchen.

This is the fourth Monday of each month.

There will be no distribution for Dec..

For those who would like to sign up for this food distribution you can contact Russell Glenn at 484-1234.

You must pick up your own food, no one can pick it up for you.

Next distribution will be on Monday, January 27, 2014.
