WGH Christmas basket raffle nets more than $13 thousand
The week-long Christmas basket raffle at Warren General Hospital netted more than $13,113 for the WGH Auxiliary. The 12th annual over-the-top “baskets” proved again to be the one of biggest money raisers for the auxiliary. This money, and all money raised by the auxiliary, stays in the community to help fund and support the various projects: medical student scholarships, the chaplaincy program at WGH, health fairs and promotions, holiday decorations, waiting room toys, plants and reading materials. The auxiliary also sponsors the adult and youth volunteer programs and operates the Window Box Gift Shop. All proceeds from this year’s Basket Raffle are earmarked for the Auxiliary’s $150,000 pledge to the WGH Cancer Care Center.
The top money raiser was “Double Your Pleasure” (basket 10), donated by the WGH Auxiliary Board. The second more popular basket was basket 9, “OOHHH Christmas Tree” by the Imaging Department, and the third most popular basket was basket 7, “Kitchen Aid,” donated by the ER/Outpatient Department. The top three baskets in popularity allow the respective departments to select a charity to receive a contribution check in their name.
Winners for each basket are: Todd Anderson (basket 1) “New Years Resolution,” with a Nordic Trac Recumbent bike, Nordic Trac Treadmill, Elliptical, Ipod, and a gift certificate to Olympia Sports, donated by the WGH Administration and Board of Directors; Nancy Gheres (basket 2), “camping,” a mountain bike, cooler, two-man tent, two sleeping bags and camping food, donated by 3C and the Deerfield Behavior Health Departments; Chuck Keller (basket 3), “Spirits of Urology,” with various bottles of liquor, wines, bottle openers, a wine rack, glasses and Pampered Chef Cocktail mixes and beverage bags, donated by the Urology Department; Sandra Bross (basket 4), “Olive the Other Reindeer,” with a copy of the Olive the other Reindeer book, tea towels, extra virgin olive oil, olive press, olive oil cruets, an olive platter, olive oil & beeswax candles, various jars of olives, almonds, bruschetta, breads, appetizer plates and a wooden condiment bowl & spoon set and storage box, all donated by Hospice; Dorothy Mead (basket 5), “Snowmen” with a large snowman decoration, 2 snowmen cutting boards, a snowman wine topper, cookie cutter, tin of popcorn and tea for one, donated by the Window Box gift shop; Suzette Berdine (basket 6), “Disney,” with a Disney toy box, plush Disney figurines, “Cars,” “Jake & the Neverland Pirates, “Mickey Mouse” and “Little Mermaid” puzzles, Disney tin popcorn, coloring books, hats & mittens, hangers, wrapping paper, socks, books and DVDs, donated by Environmental Services; Linda Anderville (basket 7), “Kitchen Aid,” with a Keurig coffee maker, microwave oven, chocolate fondue maker, various k-cup coffees, mugs, microwave foods, and foods for chocolate dipping, donated by the ER/Outpatient Departments; Evelyn Buser (basket 8), “Toasting to the Holidays” with 2 bottles of Alleghany Wine Cellar wines, two wine glasses, a Winarita Kit and a $50 Thorne’s Bilo gift certificate, donated by the AFSCME Union; Linda Ailes (basket 9), “OOHHH Christmas Tree,” with membership gift certificates from Johnson’s Black Belt Academy, the Warren YMCA, Curves for Women and Snap Fitness, 4 game tickets to Erie Otter Hockey, gift certificates from United Refining Co/Kwik Fill, Wegman’s, Coventina Day Spa, Jackson Valley golf, Conewango Country Club dinners, The Bucket in Sugar Grove, Studio 329, WalMart,Arby’s, Burger King, Youngsville Hardware, Youngsville Agway, VirgAnn’s, Ace Hardware, Chiodo’s, Terlin’s Reflections, Blair Corp, True Value, Olive Garden, Jamestown Bowling, Tim Horton’s, Huey’s Place, Bob Evans, Warren Library Theatre, Wing City, Holiday Inn buffet, Youngsville Dairy Queen, Perkins, Fox’s Pizza Den, Taco Hut, Surrena’s Pizza, Warren Tire Center car wash, Shurfine, Wendy’s, Plaza Restaurant, Weidner Deli, Value Home Center, Valley Bowling, Peppermill Restaurant, Styles Unlimited, Pizza Hut, Baldy’s Indoor Golf, Cornerstone Lounge, Cable Hollow golf, The Galley, Tammy’s Hairitage, Auto Zone and more, donated by the Imaging Department; Stephanie Hungiville (basket 10), “Double Your Pleasure,” with a 50″ LG television and a 32″ SamSung TV, donated by the WGH Auxiliary Board; Rick Brecht (basket 11), “Our Wild Life,” with a snow sled, platform squirrel/bird feeder, a hand painted bird house, three all-weather bird feeders, assorted suet cakes & holders, hummingbird feeders, bird watcher’s field guide, Tasco binoculars, 40 bags of sunflower seed, deer corn and a $25 gift card from Youngsville Agway, donated by Rehab Works; Shelly Burleigh (basket 12), Couch Potato,” with Blue Ray, several Blue Ray movies and movie snacks, donated by H.I.S.; and Cherlene Fohrd (basket 13), “Deck the Lawn” with a four-foot Starry Night Grapevine Deer and sleigh, Christmas decorations w/LED bright lights and $100 gift certificate to brighten the holidays.
