College news

Warren Area High School graduate Sabrina Anderson finished third at a Division I indoor track meet at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala Friday, her first collegiate competition. She scored a total of 3,315 points in the pentathlon and provisionally qualified for the indoor Division II National Championship. She topped the NCAA standard of 3,200 points by 115 points. Anderson ran a time of 9.52 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, cleared 1.66 meters in the high jump, landed a toss of 9.14 meters in the shot put, leaped 4.91 meters in the long jump and ran a 2:29.69 800-meter run to conclude the five-event competition, according to Slippery Rock.

Warren Area High School graduate Nathan Zigler had a solid finish in the heptathlon at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala Friday. Zigler high jumped 6′ 2.75″; long jumped 19′ 2.5″; and ran a 9:17 in the 60-meter hurdles.

Warren Area High School graduate Tyler Fantaskey scored a team-high 14 points in the Pitt-Bradford men’s basketball team’s 88-67 loss to Pitt-Greensburg on Dec. 7. Fantaskey scored 13 points in an 87-71 win over Houghton on Nov. 26, and nine points in a loss to Juniata on Nov. 23.

Warren Area High School graduate Charlie Thomas scored 11 points in Thiel College’s 81-76 win over Geneva on Dec. 4.

Baseball camp

The Mansfield University baseball program will host seven sessions of its Christmas Baseball Clinics this December. The sessions are broken down into age groups of 5-6, 7-8, 9-11, 12-14, and 15-18. The cost for a three-hour clinic is $40 per player, or $80 for the full day mini camp. For information, contact coach Harry Hillson at 570-404-2632. Dates and times are as follows:

Winter trap

The Penn York Winter Trap League met at the Busti Trap Club this week. Kalbfus was the winning team for the week with a team score of 327 and is tied with Sugar Grove for the first place position. There were 149 shooters competing.

Michael McDunn was the high junior breaking 48 targets, Ryan Bush was the high sub junior breaking 41 and Tiffany Decker was the high lady with a 47. Terry Walker (43) was the high vet, Dave Kingsley and Fred Callahan (45) tied for high senior vet, and Jim Hannon (46) was the high super senior vet.

Next week’s competition will be at the Kane Fish and Game Club. New shooters are always welcome.
