Women give thanks

Warren Women’s Christian Connection had a “Thanksgiving Feast” recently with Naomi O’Kane of DuBois as speaker. Centerpieces were turkey arrangements, and favors were Pilgrim hats.

O’Kane offered a bit of Irish humor, talking about growing up in a large family with a loving mother who made their clothing and quilts from fabric of second-hand clothing. Their thrifty meals were nourishing. O’Kane said she tried to have things her way, but that didn’t work. She began praying, asking God to forgive her, and to show her how to think and act the proper way. She was devastated when her son became involved in drugs and ended up in prison. She repeatedly prayed for her son and told him she loved him unconditionally. “God has a wonderful plan for all of us,” she said. “He loves everyone unconditionally. God wants all of us to get rid of our feelings of guilt, which is His gift to us through His Son Jesus.”

Sara DeVoiger, creator of Willow fish jewelry, inspired by nature, gave a special presentation. Darlene Varello and Naomi House sang “Amazing Grace.” Birdie Crandall read a veteran’s tribute told from the perspective of a veteran.

Debi Sprague read an interesting report from Stonecroft Ministries, with which the Connection is affiliated. White cotton socks were collected for service people.

The Connection meets on the second Tuesday of each month for lunch. It is a non-denominational Christian gathering. All women are welcome.

Toys for Tots will be collected at the Dec. 10 luncheon.
