BOYS HOOPS: Ike wins Sheffield tourney

Eisenhower used a big second quarter to break away from Austin before going on to defeat the Panthers, 53-26, to win the Sheffield Sports Boosters Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday night.

The Knights scored the first seven points of the game before the Panthers answered back with a 5-0 run of their own. Eisenhower’s lead was only four points at the end of the first quarter, but the game didn’t stay close much longer, as the Knights opened the second on a 12-2 run, and reached halftime with a 29-14 lead.

Austin wasn’t able to find any answers in the second half either, as they were outscored 24-12.

Eisenhower used 13 players in the victory.

“It was a slow game,” Eisenhower coach Dave Allenson said. “(Austin) did a nice job of slowing the pace down. We didn’t have the same intensity as last night, but we had some guys who played very well.”

Tre Frank led the Knights in scoring with 14 points, while Jarrett Johnson added 12 and John Potts chipped in eight. Eisenhower made 23 field goals while Austin hit just 10.

The Knights (2-0) will have nearly a week off before hosting Saegertown on Friday.
