BOYS HOOPS: Knights advance to play Austin in boys’ final

Eisenhower defeated Sheffield by a score of 50-34 in the late game of the Sheffield Sports Boosters Tip-Off Tournament Friday night.

“I thought they played well,” said Knights’ coach Dave Allenson. “I expected a little different, but we’ve only played ourselves so it’s been hard to judge. We started on the right foot then went away from our game a little, but in the second half we started bringing it together.”

Tre Frank led Eisenhower with 12 points, while Casey Vincent and Carter Farrell each chipped in eight. Jimmy Vile had 12 points for Sheffield.

No other details were available at press time.

Austin 42, Youngsville 38

The Youngsville boys went down to the wire against Austin High School in the opening round of the Sheffield Sports Boosters Tip-Off Tournament, but the Panthers were able to pull away late in the game, advancing to the finals with a 42-38 win over the Eagles.

Austin’s Anderson Nicka hit a free throw with five seconds remaining in the game to stretch his team’s lead to four, putting the game out of reach for the Eagles.

“The boys played hard. There are areas we need to clean up, but the effort is there,” said Youngsville coach Jim Kesterholt. “As I’ve said before, our goal is to get better every time we step between the lines. We did that tonight, but you’re never happy about a loss.”

James Frazier paced the Youngsville offense with 12 points, Trevor Flinn added 11, and Collin Lehnen had 10 in the loss.

The Eagles will look for a win in the consolation game against the host Wolverines, who were defeated by Eisenhower in the nightcap. Austin will take on the Knights in the boys’ final at 8 p.m. No other details from the late game were available by press time.
