College news

Gannon’s Cody Crosby, a graduate of Eisenhower High School, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America football first team released Wednesday afternoon.

Crosby is the first Gannon football student-athlete in school history to become a two-time Academic All-American. The senior punter earned second-team accolades in 2012, before landing a spot on the first team this season. He is the third Golden Knight in school history to earn Academic All-America football honors.

He owns a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average as a mechanical engineering major. A two-time Capital One Academic All-District II first-team selection, Crosby has been named a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete and received the Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) Academic Achievement Award every year.

Crosby averaged 39.8 yards as Division II Gannon’s rugby-style punter this season (www.gannonsports.com/news/2013/12/4/fb-1204135251.aspx). He placed nearly half of his punts inside the 20-yard line. Crosby booted a season-best 55-yard punt during a 38-27 victory against nationally-ranked Slippery Rock. He averaged 34.5 yards on 24 punts during his collegiate career.
