WALTER SMITH

Walter R. “Doc” Smith, 88, of Tiona, PA died on Monday, November 25, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness.

Born on July 4, 1925 in Norway, NY he was the son of the late Robert P. J. and Magdalena Kingsbury Smith. On October 8, 1949 he married Ruth Mary Huckabone, who died in 1989. On November 28, 1993, he married Christine Szybist, who died on May 19, 2013.

Doc was a longtime resident of Tiona. He served with the U. S. Army in Italy and North Africa during World War II. Following the war Doc worked with Hannah’s Garage and later with Dan’s Chevrolet, both in Warren, then owned his own garage from 1955 until 1970. He later worked with Jones Chevrolet in Sheffield, PA. Doc was also a teacher with the Warren County VoTech, retiring in 1989.

Doc was a 63 year member of Joseph Warren Lodge #726 and the Coudersport Consistory. He was also a member of the Warren County Shrine and the National Camping Travelers.

Doc is survived by three children, Allen W. Smith of Tiona, PA, Linda J. Jordan and her husband, Tim, of Tiona, PA, and Mary Catherine Blaski and her husband, John of Virginia Beach, VA, four grandchildren, including Michael Jordan and his wife, Michelle, of Sheffield, PA and Heather Jordan of Las Vegas, NV, ten greatgrand children, including Deanna Jordan and Nicholas Jordan, three greatgreat grandchildren, two brothers, Tracy R. Smith of Ballston Spa, NY and John R. Smith of Dickson, TN, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wives, Doc was preceded in death by two grandsons, Christopher J. Blaski and Jeffery L. Blaski, one brother, Edward Smith, four sisters, Anna Newgard, Mary Reinhardt, Marge Restante, and Katherine Agnew and an infant sister, Jane Smith.

Friends may call from 2 4:00 P.M. and 6 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home by members of the Joseph Warren Masonic Lodge. Funeral and committal services will be held at Tiona United Methodist church on Friday, November 29, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. with the Rev. Martin P. Reynolds, Pastor, officiating. Flag presentation will be made by members of the U. S. Army. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Warren, PA.
