James W. Miller, Sr., 91, passed over unexpectedly at 9:57am, Thursday, November 21, 2013 in Kane Community Hospital. He was born November 9, 1922 in Mayburg to the late Levern and Maude Shay Miller.
A lifelong area resident, Jim started working for Hammond Iron Works and retired from PDM. In addition to the steel work, he was an independent logger. Jim served in the Navy during WW II, was a member of Joseph Warren Masonic Lodge, Coudersport Consistory, Odd Fellows, and the Wilcox American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, and riding his Harley; loved going to auctions and was a real handyman known as Mr. Fixit in the neighborhood.
The grandchildren and great grandchildren were the apples of his eyes.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife Carol E. Peterson Miller; two sons, James “Butch” Miller, Jr., Clarendon and Timothy and wife Sherry Miller, Jacksonville, FL; three daughters, Cindy Streigel, Sheffield, Darlene MillerKlacamp, Garland, and Patricia Miller, Sheffield; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, 1 brother John Miller, Kane; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by two brothers Edward and Albert Miller.
Funeral and committal services will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday, November 26, 2013 in the BordenLloyd Funeral Home with Reverend Dennis Johnson, pastor, Sheffield United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Warren. Friends may call Monday, November 25 from 2:004:00 and 6:008:00pm at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Warren Cancer Center, Shriners Hospital, Erie, or March of Dimes.
