Toys for Tots
The AMVETS Post #50 in Sugar Grove is hosting Toys for Tots Spaghetti dinner on Sunday, Dec. 1 from noon until 5 p.m.. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children
The AMVETS and AMVETS Commander Hitchcock invite you come and support the fundraising event and donate a toy to a child. All donations and proceeds stay in Warren County under the direction of the Marine Corp. League. Mark your calendar and come out to take part in this special holiday event.
A Sugar Grove
The Sugar Grove Community will hold their 5th Annual Christmas Walk this year on Friday, Dec. 13 , from 5 p.m. 7 p.m. There will be live music from a Barbershop quartet, the EMHS Orchestra, and carols provided throughout town by the EMHS Fantasia Choir and the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church. Our stores will be open and local organization will be participating, each with it’s own activities or events including living windows, live nativity scenes, art exhibits from our local grade school and high school, costume characters throughout the town, face painting, temporary tattoos, contests and drawings at participating merchants, cookie decorating, donut making, treat bags and hot beverages, hay rides, live animals and much more. Mrs. Santa will hot a reading at the Sugar Grove Library with crafts for children to make with hot chocolate and outside marshmallow fire roasting. Of course, a Christmas event is not complete without the arrival of Santa. He will be coming to the park with the help of our local fire department at exactly 5 p.m. Flyers will be in all our local stores the week of Thanksgiving with a list of events including a map of all activities you can take part in. The Sugar Grove Community will be holding their special holiday events on Saturday. Many local business will have special sales in preparation for the holiday season. The Sugar Grove Fire Department will be holding their Annual Holiday Craft Sale and The Sugar Grove United Methodist Church will hold their Annual Holiday Treasure Sale from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. Come on our and shop our local Sugar Grove area on Saturday.
The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend any or all of the area Community lunches. Each month lunch is held on the 1st Friday of the month at the Mission Covenant Church at the corner of Matthews Run and Jackson Run Road. On the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church located at the corner of Race Street and Jamestown Street in the center of town. On the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.
A Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner will be held at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church in Chandlers Valley again this year. The traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be served family-style. There will be one sitting at 1 p.m. Come and join in for good food and good company. No donations are expected for this dinner, it’s the congregation’s gift to the community. In order for them to be sure to have room and food for everyone, reservations are appreciated. The Sugar Grove Free Library Book Club is planning Nov. 25 when Chris Kerr will lead a discussion of Herman Wouk’s A Hole in Texas. The book is a satire on “Washington, the media, and science, and what happens when these three great forces of American culture clash.”
The Chick-A-Dee Day Care has new openings for children ages newborn to 5 years of age. The facility is operated by the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church which has been granted a license by the State of Pennsylvania for day care services. The Sugar Grove Imaginative Preschool will hold its Thanksgiving celebration on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m. All the families are invited to attend. There will be a buffet feast for the students and their families. The classes will provide a short Thanksgiving program for everyone to enjoy prior to the feast.
Many organizations in Sugar Grove packed Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes this month. The Samaritans’ purse organization collects filled shoeboxes as Christmas gifts for children ages 2-12 and delivers them to under privileged children in various countries. Many of the area organizations collected their filled shoe boxes this week. Our Sugar Grove Community collected more than 250 shoe boxes to send to children around the world for Christmas.
