Garden Club members continue tradition at Historical Society

‘Tis the season for Christmas decorations at the Warren County Historical Society.

The Warren Garden Club provided much of the labor.

Last Tuesday, three Historical Society volunteers – Wally Blyth, Carl Wolf and Jack Stein – unpacked and assembled the five Christmas trees now on display at the Struthers-Wetmore-Schimmelfeng House at 210 Fourth Ave.

On Wednesday, 20 of the Garden Club’s 61 members brought in several truckloads of decorations for those trees and for the house in general.

It’s a tradition. According to Historical Society Managing Director Michelle Gray, the Garden Club has been handling the decorating for 14 years.

After six hours, most of the club members had left, according to Historical Society Events Coordinator Casey Ferry.

The club has won Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania awards for its decoration of the Historical Society in years past, Ferry said. Last year, the local group took first place.

The display will remain up through the first of the year, Ferry said.
