Red Kettles coming out Friday in county
The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign will begin on Friday with a number of local businesses volunteering their time to raise funds for families and children in Warren County.
The Red Kettle Campaign will run every day until Dec. 24 with the exception of Sundays and Thanksgiving Day.
“There are a lot businesses, there are a lot organizations and clubs in town that will stand for us during the Christmas season and help us out,” Salvation Army Major Ron Starnes said. “We’ve found this area is very generous and very kind to partner with the Salvation Army to help the needs of people in Warren County.”
Participating organizations include Northwest Savings Bank in downtown Warren, Ludlow Street, and North Warren, as well as Walmart, Shurfine, K-Mart, Dollar General, Bi-Lo, CVS, the post office in Warren and PNC Bank. Kettles can also be found in Tidioute, Sheffield, Sugar Grove, and Youngsville.
Starnes said the low estimate for total volunteer hours by the end of December is between 800 and 1,000 hours.
Last year’s Red Kettle Campaign exceeded the goal for Warren County and Starnes estimated the Salvation Army was able to help nearly 345 families and 500 children in Warren County.
Funds from the Red Kettle Campaign are used to help fund the Salvation Army’s Christmas Drive to help children and families and any extra funds raised are taken into 2014 to help Warren County residents in need of financial and food assistance.
The Salvation Army will also continue the Treasures for Children Trees in Northwest Savings Bank in Warren where residents can take a tag from the tree and sponsor a child with a present that the Salvation Army will give to the child.
“It’s a wonderful thing from our end,” he said. “It shows the support from Warren County.”
