FOOTBALL: Cochranton shuts out Eagles

COCHRANTON – Youngsville fell to 0-8 with a 52-0 defeat at the hands of Region 2’s Cochranton on Friday night.

The Eagles were only able to gain 48 total yards and one first down, while the Cardinals used 10 different rushers to gain 216 yards on the ground, with quarterback Chad Eisenhooth passing for 122 more.

The Cardinals scored the first three times they touched the ball, and led 26-0 after the first quarter. On their first offensive play, Eisenhooth found wideout Jesse Staudt open downfield for a 60-yard score. After forcing the Eagles into a three-and-out on the following possession, Staudt returned the punt 65 yards for his second touchdown. Eisenhooth would then find Garrett Adams for a 47 yard touchdown on their next offensive play. Running back Jamar Moody would find the end zone from one yard out before the quarter ended.

Cochranton (5-3, 4-2 in Region 2) added three more touchdowns in the second quarter to increase its lead to 46-0 heading into halftime. The Cardinals final score came on a Blake Miller touchdown run in the third quarter.

Josh Taydus took over quarterbacking duties for the Eagles, completing just three of nine passes to go along with four interceptions, all in the first half.

Jake Lauffenburger was Youngsville’s leading rusher with 24 yards. Tyler Hoffman recorded an interception of Cardinals backup quarterback Nate Slawson late in the fourth quarter.

“This was the flattest game we’ve played,” Youngsville coach John Victor said. “I didn’t see the spark I’ve seen in every game. Not being able to get into the weight room this year is showing. These teams are bigger and stronger than we are.”

The Eagles will continue to look for their first win when they host county rival Eisenhower next week.
