THOMAS JOHNSON, SR.
Thomas William Johnson Sr., of Arlington, TX, lost his battle to a long debilitating illness on October 7, 2013.
He was born in Warren, PA, July 16, 1962 to Timothy L. Johnson and Barbara A. Sharp Johnson Land. Tom was preceded in death by his father Timothy L. Johnson Sr., stepsister Bonnie Marie Land, grandparents William and Florence Sharp and Norman and Elizabeth Johnson, and inlaws Henry and Nancy Grieb, and Jake his beloved, faithful dog.
Thomas is survived by his mother and stepfather Barry James Land of Jonesborough, TN. Wife Rebecca Grieb Johnson, 5 children, Christina Grieb Johnson, Amanda, Thomas Jr. (TJ), Danielle and Michael Johnson, all of Arlington, TX. Thomas is also survived by 4 wonderful grandchildren, Hunter and Mason Broadley, Samantha Paz, and Addison Davis all of Arlington, TX. Also surviving are siblings, Sheryl (Kevin) Sudul, Russell, PA, Timothy Johnson, Fort Smith, AR, Tammy (Robert) Klus, Union City, PA, Ted (Beth) Johnson, Pensacola, FL., stepbrothers Brad (Sherry) Land, Cookeville, TN and Bryan (Denise) Land, Mentor, OH, as well as sistersinlaw Michaela Sheppard, Forestville, CA, Victoria (David) Preston, Elizabethtown, PA., Elizabeth (Eric) Lindhart, Cogan Station, PA., Kathy Goranson, Lancaster, PA and brotherinlaw David Grieb, Cogan Station, PA. Also survived by 2 very special aunts, Diane (Richard) Iseman, Russell, PA. and Susan Sharp, Grand Valley, PA. as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Tom graduated from Eisenhower High School, Russell, PA in 1980. He then joined the U.S. Navy serving proudly at San Diego NAS Miramar and at North Island, CA for 4 years until 1984. There he learned the nuts and bolts of Flight Simulation. He did that work for many years with (GM) Hughes. He also worked the GM EV1 Electric Car Program at Torrance, CA. His final working days were with Project Management; Link Simulation L3 in Arlington, TX. He was an extraordinary Journeyman and Computer, Electronics & Electrical/Hydraulics Technician & Supervisor.
Tom was an aviation enthusiast and discovered his passion for flying at the age of 14. Tom was an avid motorcycle rider and really enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. Tom was instrumental in leading his younger brother, Ted in becoming a fighter pilot.
Tom was an awesome storyteller and an incredible humorist. Our Tom touched more lives than we’ll ever know, just by a smile, a joke or a shoulder to lean on. He instilled a piece of his beautiful spirit within everyone that has the honor of crossing his path. We will miss him dearly.
