Sugar Grove getting new Christmas lights
New Christmas lights are close to becoming reality in Sugar Grove Borough.
During its meeting Monday night, borough council approved hiring Penelec to install the necessary wiring for the lights.
In March, the Sugar Grove AMVETS donated $4,500 to the borough to help cover the cost of the electric work as well as $6,000 for the purchase of new Christmas lights.
Mayor Dutch Strand said that the cost of the electrical work will “come in more than that likely” but that other funding is available to pay for the work.
Council was also updated that the lights have been ordered. It was discussed that each of the fixtures are 4′ x 4′ and 10 bells, for a total of $3,500 plus shipping, as well as 10 snowflakes, at $3,640 plus shipping, have been purchased and are ready to be delivered.
Strand said that he spoke with the electrician and is still waiting for an estimate to both install the wiring for the new lights and removing the existing wiring. When the motion was made, Councilman Kevin Nicklas said that the motion regarding Penelec can stand assuming the cost of the project stays under the amount that would be required to go out for bid.
