The Eisenhower Knights junior high football team defeated Conneaut, 26-8, on Thursday October 10. An interception by Jaydon Hayes set up an 18-yard run by Matt Huling for the Knights’ first touchdown. Eisenhower increased its lead when a Conneaut punt was blocked by Justin Hagberg and recovered by Jared Younger on the Eagles’ 10-yard line, where Spencer Head completed a pass to Hayes for a 12-0 lead at the half.
Hayes had his second interception early in the third quarter, then finished the drive with a 10-yard touchdown run. With Conneaut driving down the field, Hayes picked off another ball and returned it for a touchdown, and Hagberg ran in the two point conversion to complete the Knights scoring.
Eisenhower was led by outstanding offensive line play from Younger, Hagberg, Kody Passinger, Seth Voty, and William Schwanke. Ethan Chambers rushed for 81 yards on 11 carries, Huling rushed for 43 yards on seven carries and Head had 46 yards on seven carries. Willie Hoffman had one catch for seven yards and Sam Holt had one reception for 22 yards.
Hayes had four interceptions to lead the Ike defense, including three touchdowns. Huling also had a strong game with three tackles behind the line of scrimmage, Aiden Farrell added three solo tackles, and Alex Barnett recovered an onside kick for the Knights.
The Knights are now 2-3 on the season and will travel to Union City on Thursday, Oct. 7.
