Leaf Pickup Picks Up On Monday

What falls down can be picked up.

Leaf collection in the City of Warren will officially begin Monday and will continue until late November, weather permitting.

Crews are out this week getting a jump on some areas that are ready.

“We were out this week hitting some of the areas where residents have already been able to rake up their leaves,” Assistant Director of Public Works Vinnie Massa said. “This also allows us to get in some safety training. It’s a very good training exercise scenario for us.”

Leaves may be piled near the curb on the lawn or bagged and put out at the curb.

The leaf vacuum machine will pick up piled leaves. Bagged leaves will be picked up separately.

Residents are asked not to mix limbs and other yard waste with the leaves.

City residents who would like an alternative to the city’s pick-up may take material to the city’s compost site in Glade Township – the old Valentine dump off Cobham Park Road.

“Residents are more than welcome to take leaves and yard debris up there if they wish,” Massa said.

That facility is open during daytime hours seven days a week.
