Sugar Grove Area News in Brief
The Chandlers Valley Community Center located at 9250 Jackson Run Road will have a pancake dinner on Oct. 17th. The dinner will start at 5 p.m. and continue until supplies are gone. The cost is a goodwill donation. We hope that everyone will come out and let us warm you up during the cold weather with a delicious dinner.
Mark your calendars as the Warren County School District will not have classes on Monday Oct. 14. There will also be Parent Teacher conferences held in November. Watch your flyers coming home from school for directions on how to sign up for a Parent Teacher Conference in your school.
Sugar Grove Elementary School Students can plan on their fall school pictures happening Thursday, Oct. 17th.
Sugar Grove Food Pantry
The Sugar Grove Food Pantry is currently open two evenings during the month for those in need of supplies. The facility, located at 210 Jamestown Street in the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, is open on the first Tuesday of each month and also on the third Wednesday of each month.
During these evenings individuals are welcome to come from 6 p.m. -8 p.m. Volunteers do ask that you do not arrive or line up before 5:45 p.m. as other activities are happening in the same location. The Second Harvest Mobile Food Distribution also takes place at this location on Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning at 8 a.m. in the gymnasium.
This facility distributes food for the coverage area of the Sugar Grove Borough, the Sugar Grove Township, the Brokenstraw Township, Pittsfield Township, the Lander and Farmington Township area, Bear Lake and Freehold Township, and those living in the North Warren area west of Dutch Hill Road. If you live outside of those areas you might want to check out the other food pantries in Warren County.
Similar facilities are located at the Clarendon Mobile Food Pantry, the Evangelical United Methodist Church, The First Church of the Nazarene in Warren, Praise Fellowship Church in Russell, the Salvation Army in Warren, the St. Josephs Church Soup Kitchen in Warren, The Youngsville Ministerial Food Pantry at the United Methodist Church in Youngsville, and the Tidioute Mobile Food Pantry at the Tidioute Fire Hall
The Eisenhower Knights continue their fall sports schedule, and there are a number of games and events to come out and watch this week. Dress warm for the outdoor activities and come on out and cheer on the Knights.
The Junior High Football team will travel to take on Union City on Oct. 17 with a game starting at 5 p.m. The JV Football team will also travel this coming week to play a 6 p.m. match against the Conneaut Area on Oct. 14.
Tonight the Varsity Football Team is back on the Pasture of Pain with a home game against Conneaut. The Knights are coming off an impressive winning road trip. The will also play at home next week at 7 p.m. against Union City. Our Knights Soccer teams will have a coupe of matches to catch this week.
Boys will play tomorrow, Oct. 12, at home against Titusville beginning at 11 a.m. and then the Girls team will also take on Titusville starting at 1 p.m. It’s a day of soccer on the Eisenhower field. During the week you can see the boys in away match against Seneca on Oct. 14 and then in a home match against North East on Oct. 16. The girls will have two away matches this coming week on Oct. 15 against North East beginning at 6 p.m. and on Oct. 17 against Iroquois beginning at 7 p.m. The Knights volleyball team will have two matches this week. They will play Oct. 15 in an away match against Union City beginning at 6 p.m. and then the all important Youngsville Match up on Oct. 17 also starting at 6 p.m. Rounding out the week the Junior High Girls Basketball Team will play Monday, Oct. 14, at 5 p.m. in Bradford and then they will take on Youngsville at home on Oct. 16 with a game starting at 4 p.m. The Cross Country Team will attend their regional meet on Oct. 19 next week. The time and location will be announced later.
The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend any or all of the area Community lunches. Each month lunch is held on the 1st Friday of the month at the Mission Covenant Church at the corner of Matthews Run and Jackson Run Road. On the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church located at the corner of Race Street and Jamestown Street in the center of town. On the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.
The Sugar Grove Library Book Club will meet Oct. 28. The selection is The Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher by Timothy Egan. It is the non-fiction story of Edward Curtis, the renowned photographer who documented the saga of the American Indian. Pick up a copy on line or at the Library and then join in the fun for the book club discussion.
The Sugar Grove borough council is considering expanding sidewalks on Catlin Hill Road from Forest Street to West Mill Street. If you have an opinion on the sidewalk expansion, or an idea for funding, please contact the borough office at 489-7822.
