Pumpkin

decorating contest

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, the Warren Public Library will hold a pumpkin decorating contest from 3:30 to 7 p.m. for youngsters ages 8 to 18. Participants are to decorate their pumpkins based on a character from a book of their choosing. The library will provide 20 pumpkins, which will be given out on a first-come basis. Youngsters are allowed to bring their own and/or additional pumpkins. While the library will provide permanent markers, paint and other items of decoration, participants are encouraged to bring extra embellishments that might be necessary to their pumpkin’s character. Pumpkins will be displayed on the library’s first floor until Oct. 26 so the public can cast their votes for their favorites. First place will receive a $50 Amazon gift card and second place will receive a $30 Amazon gift card. Winners will be notified on Oct. 28. Participants can pick their pumpkins up starting Oct. 28 to take home. Those who can’t make it on Oct. 15 are welcome to enter a pumpkin decorated at home. Make sure your pumpkin character is based on a book. Turn it in by 5 p.m., Oct. 19, to the attention of Children’s Librarian Susan Slater. Please include: child’s name, age, phone number, book title, author, and character.
