Mary Elizabeth Benedict, 81, of 2034 York Hill Rd., Pittsfield, passed away at home on October 8, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born July 27, 1932 in Warren to the late William J. and Louise Mourer Crippen and was a 1950 graduate of Youngsville High School. Staying active over the years, Mary worked part time at the Warren County Guide and volunteered at many local organizations including the Friends of the Rouse, Warren County Fair and Love INC. She was a member of the Irvine Presbyterian Church, where she served on the Irvine Presbyterian Church Women’s Association. She was a charter member of the Youngsville High School Alumni Scholarship Fund and she served as Judge of Election for Brokenstraw Township.
Mary is survived by her husband G. Allen Benedict, whom she married on August 4, 1950; her children Duane(Sandy)Benedict of Pittsfield, Diane(Chris)Payne of Pittsfield and Dennis(Kathy)Benedict of Youngsville; sisters Bernice(David)Close of Erie, Pa and Laura Finlan of Warren; 8 grandchildren,10 greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Claude Crippen and George Crippen.
Friends may be received on Thursday, October 10 from 47pm at the Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 314 North Main St, Youngsville and 1 hour prior to an 11 am Funeral service on Friday, with the Pastor Dennis Ledebur of the Irvine Presbyterian Church Officiating. Burial will follow in Sanford Cemetery, Grand Valley, Pa.
