GIRLS GOLF: Smoulder 4th at D10 girls golf

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS -Warren’s Megan Smoulder finished fourth out of 12 at Tuesday’s District 10 Class AAA Girls Golf Championship at Riverside Golf Course, but Smoulder’s and teammate Libby Hammond’s seasons came to an end.

Only the champion in Class AAA advances to states – McDowell’s Megan Kaverman with an 18-hole 80. Smoulder had an 87, behind only Kaverman, Meadville’s Lacey Latta (83) and McDowell’s Ellen Eighmy (84).

Smoulder, a junior, advanced to districts by being among the top eight, by average, in her region.

Hammond, also a junior, who advanced to districts in a qualifying meet, shot an 18-hole 124.

“An 87 at districts is playing good golf, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough today to get it done,” said Warren girls golf coach Tom Smoulder. “Today was a good experience for both of our girls and I am sure they will use it to drive them to the top next year.”

In the Class AA meet, which saw four golfers advance to states, Meghan Moylan of North East was champion with a 72, Villa Maria’s Annie Ciachinni second at 80, Mercyhurst Prep’s Georgia Capotis third at 81, and Mercyhurst Prep’s Grace Brozozowski fourth at 82.
