Chapman Fall Festival this weekend

Chapman State Park Fall Festival Weekend kicks off Friday night with a high-tech scavenger hunt in the dark.

Geocaching at Night, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the amphitheater, is the only event on the agenda for Friday.

On Saturday, there are 12 events that run from noon to 4 the beach or pavilion 4:

Macros of Chapman, a search for creatures in Chapman Lake with Jean Gomory of the Warren County Conservation District;

Gone Batty – “join the park naturalist to learn about the bats of Pennsylvania and then make a friend to take home”;

Apple Cider Demonstrations including tastings, with Jim and Bev Kinney;

Garbage Can Corn and Mountain Pie Fixin’s; Jim Johnson will demonstrate how to make mountain pies and garbage can corn, with samples available;

Ice Cream Making, also with samples, with Bob and Mary Sue Steele;

Dutch Oven Cooking, with samples, presented by Lynn and Judy Critchlow;

Chapman Information: Winterfest, camping, hiking, etc.;

Leaf Printing with the Bureau of Forestry – “learn about fall leaves and then make a leaf print to take home”;

Wild Mushrooms – “visit with Karen Croyle to learn about edible and non-edible mushrooms”;

Play with a Purpose “join Gary Lester to try a variety of games including ‘group skiing’ and ‘A-frame stilts'”;

Elk in Pennsylvania, a history of elk in the area with Zach McCloskey from Bald Eagle State Park;

Lumber Heritage, Dale Luthringer of Cook Forest will demonstrate how logs were cut during the old lumbering days.

Hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be available at the concession stand, operated by Boy Scouts of Chief Cornplanter Council.

A pumpkin decorating contest will be held at 5:30 p.m. and the weekend’s activities will wrap up with a beach bonfire at 7 p.m.
