Warren’s Hammond joins teammate Smoulder as D10 girls golf qualifier

UNION CITY – Libby Hammond is in, too.

After Tuesday’s District 10 Region 3 Qualifier at Union City Country Club, Hammond will join automatic qualifier Megan Smoulder to represent Warren Area High School’s girls golf team at Tuesday’s District 10 Championships at Riverside Golf Course in Cambridge Springs.

Smoulder was among the top eight averages from Region 3, but four others could qualify on Tuesday, and Hammond was tied for second with a nine-hole 52 that earned her a trip.

“Tonight, I applaud Libby’s desire, work ethic, and skills that drove her to achieve her aspiration in qualifying,” said Warren coach Tom Smoulder. “Plus, I have a lot of appreciation for Clancy Fyock’s efforts who just missed it tonight but was a solid player for the Lady Dragons all year. Those two, along with Meghan Loutzenhiser and Ashley McClure who fought hard tonight, gives me a lot of hope for a bright Lady Dragon future.”

Meadville’s Felicia Kraska shot a 51, Hammond and Meadville’s Abby Moore each shot a 52, and Meadville’s Michaela Persichini shot a 55 among nine shooting for four spots.

Fyock was Warren’s next closest finisher with a 63.
