Jefferson DeFrees Family Center is proud of many accomplishments

The Jefferson DeFrees Family Center is proud of its accomplishments. You can be proud too, knowing you have contributed to our commitment to provide quality service to the Warren area for over 100 years. In the most recent years we have provided outstanding child care services, meeting rooms, wellness programs, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program, Project KidSafe, and the Warren/Forest Resource Directory.

Providing children with quality early learning programs is a priority for the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center. The facility awarded a PA Keystone a STAR 4 ranking for the fourth year operates classrooms for children ages 2-12 years. The program includes a child care with preschool, PA Pre-K Counts, before and after school programs and summer care.

Before and After School programs for children K- 6 grades are held at the Center with transportation provided by the Warren County School District. The program offers a snack, homework assistance, and teacher led activities, along with indoor and outdoor recess.

Wellness and staying healthy is easy with JD Family Center’s classes and Fitness Center. Low impact and senior aerobics, yoga, Tai Chi, and strength training classes are offered on a regular basis. The Fitness Center equipment includes a cable machine, elliptical machine, treadmills, exercise and recumbent bikes, free and hand weights.

CASA of Warren and Forest Counties has educated 45 citizen volunteers who now are equipped to help their community understand the Foster Care system. Children with a CASA spend less time in court and in placement which allows a safe, nurturing home to be located in the shortest time possible. CASA, in 2012, served 27 of Warren and Forest counties most vulnerable children; abused and or neglected under the Courts Jurisdiction.

As part of the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center’s commitment to the community, meeting rooms are provided to non-profit groups at a minimal charge. Among those who take advantage of the meeting rooms and the kitchen facility are Bollinger Enterprises, Special Olympics, Zonta, and the Kiwanis Club of Warren to name just a few. In the past year 42,600 individuals took advantage of the programs and meeting rooms at the JD Family Center.

Community service projects include the Resource Directory which contains information about housing, employment, health, support groups and more of Forest and Warren Counties, an online version of the directory can be found at The Project KidSafe program provides an opportunity for children age 6 months and older to have free of charge fingerprinting and photo identification packets. Over the past 13 years 7000 children have received photo identification packets.
