CROSS COUNTRY: Ike’s VanGuilder, Y’ville’s Messinger lead county at Sharpsville invite

SHARON – Eisenhower’s Devin VanGuilder and Youngsville’s Brook Messinger led county runners at Saturday’s Sharpsville Invitational at wet and muddy Buhl Park – a large precursor to the District 10 championship races next month.

The senior VanGuilder finished 23rd overall out of 309 runners representing nearly 50 schools, finishing the 3.1-mile course in 17:36. Messinger, a freshman, finished 20th out of 275 runners, in 20:39.80.

For Eisenhower’s boys, which finished 34th as a team, Ben Morrison was 169th in 19:53.80, Tim Lange 198th in 20:23.40, Derek Lasecki 219th in 20:52, his best time of the season, Jacob McCool 234th in 21:08.40, and Jason Morine 256th in 21:52.70.

For Warren’s boys, which finished in 32nd, Blake Ristau was 69th overall in 18:32.40, Sean McGuinness 162nd in 19:48.90, Mark Reiff 183rd in 20:05.60, Brandon Nielson 191 in 20:13.80, Christian Olson 226th in 20:57, James Sturdevant 246th in 21:27.20, and Reed Swanson 255th in 21:51.80.

For Youngsville’s boys, Tanner Burns was 99th in 18:54.80, Zach Ishman 223rd in 20:55.80, Collin Lehnen 224th in 20:55.90, Bobby Bower 232nd in 21:07.60, Jeremy Lyon 262nd in 22:18.30, Chester Ciukaj 264th in 22:19.70, and Nathan Carr 274th in 23:08.30.

Tidioute Charter was represented as well, with Rickey McAfoose running in 289th in 23:06.90, and Ian Proctor in 305th in 29:07.20.

Youngsville’s Lady Eagles finished 20th out of 49 teams represented, and 35 scoring teams.

In addition to Messinger, Leigh Fehlman was 88th in 22:22.30, Lydia Swartzbaugh 131st in 23:33.40, Piper Olson 154th in 24:14.60, Hannah Morris 153rd in 24:25.10, Leah McClusky 164th in 24:55.50, and Mallory Eastman 202nd in 26:33.

Ike’s girls were 30th, with Julia Bauer a strong 56th in 21:46, Kate Daugharthy 157th in 23:57, Lacey Stanko 187th in 25:08, Grace Thompson 208th in 25:44, Hannah Bortz 215th in 25:56, and Emily Rutsky 274th in 43:05.

Warren was represented by Deanna Hahn, who finished in 147th in 23:42.50, and Brittany Massa 248th in 27:44.50.

Tidioute Charter’s Lauren Slack finished in 259th in 29:15.60.
