Safety Bug at SAMHS

Ninth through 12th-grade students took part in the Safety Bug Program with the Team DUI, Officer Fetzeck of the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, Deena Filla of Warren County Adult Probation, and Sara Connolly, SADD coordinator for Sheffield Area Middle Senior High School.

The program was offered at the St. Paul Center in Saybrook due to the construction at the high school. Mrs. Beers stated that the construction will not take away from educational opportunity at SAMSHS. Thank you to the St. Paul Center for the use of their parking lot to teach these students the importance of not using substance or alcohol when operating a vehicle. Eleventh- and 12th-grade students with their drivers license were able to drive the safety bug and feel what it is like to drive under the influence along with their passengers, who were in the ninth and 10th grades.

Other students were able to wear simulation goggles and take a sobriety check to see how they would make it through a sobriety check under the influence of either a substance or alcohol.
