Back to School Picnic

The Eisenhower Middle School PTA held its Annual Back-To-School cookout for the middle school teachers, parents, and students on Saturday, Aug. 31,from 1 to 4 p.m. While the visitors did not receive a tour of the facility they did enjoy a great cook-out of grilled hot dogs and burgers. Everyone also received a lot of information on the upcoming school year as numerous teachers as well as Mr. Martin spoke to the crowd from the football bleachers. Thank you to the Middle School PTA for sponsoring the event each year.

Cross Country

Car Wash

The Eisenhower Knights Cross Country Team will be holding a car wash at the AutoZone on Market Street Ext. in Warren on Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by and get your car washed while supporting our team.

Freedom Walk 2013

The Sugar Grove Community will be participating in the nationwide America Supports You Freedom Walk on Sept. 11 to remember 9-11 victims and honor military past and present who protect America’s freedom.

The 2013 America Supports You Freedom Walk is sponsored by the AMVETS (American Veterans) and AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary. It will be happening on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. in the Sugar Grove Town Park. Our walk will begin and end in the park and everyone all ages is invited to join us. Paul Tutmaher will be our speaker prior to the start of the event.

This year marks the 12-year anniversary of the tragic events at the Pentagon, the Twin Towers in New York City, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The purpose of the America Supports you Freedom Walk is to establish a national tradition to reflect on the lives lost on Sept. 11, renew our commitment to freedom and the values of our country and to honor our veterans, past and present. Sugar Grove will join cities across America to host an America Supports You Freedom Walk.

The route for America Supports You Freedom Walk will begin at the Sugar Grove Town Park. The walk will be less than two miles. For more information you can log on to www.AmericaSupportsYou.mil.

SG Book Club New

For those interested in being a part of the Sugar Grove Free Library Book Club, they have a new book each month. For September the selection is “Divergent’ by Veronica Roth. This first book of a trilogy called The Divergent Trilogy. The setting is dystopia Chicago in the future where individuals must remain in the faction into which they were born or select and become accepted into a different faction. The five factions are: the Selfless, the Peaceful, the Honest, the Brave and the Intelligent. We will follow 16-year-old Beatrice through her journey.

The next meeting is Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sugar Grove Library.

Movie Nights

The community of Sugar Grove held its Outdoor Movie Nights at the Sugar Grove Park on last Friday of each month. Family Movies are played on an inflatable movie screen starting at dusk. Everyone is invited to come along and bring blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks and enjoy the show. Each event is sponsored by the Warren County Council of Tourism and the Sugar Grove Borough Council. There will be one more movie night of the year and it will be Sept. 27. The movie will be The Secret of the Wings. Mark your calendars and plan to come on out and join in a fun night in the park.

Community Lunch

Schedule

The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend any or all of the area Community lunches.

Each month lunch is held on the first Friday of the month at the Mission Covenant Church at the corner of Matthews Run and Jackson Run roads. On the second Thursday of each month at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church located at the corner of Race and Jamestown streets in the center of town. On the third Wednesday of the month at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.

The Farmers Open

Sign up now for the Darrell Johnson and Jeff Lindell Memorial Farmer’s Open Golf Tournament. This year the tournament will be held on Oct. 10 with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. at Jackson Valley Country Club. The cost is $40 per person for 18 holes, golf cart, and lunch at the turn. This is a 4-person scramble.

Call Jeff Savko at Jackson Valley 489-7803 by Oct. 7 to make your reservations. There will be prizes, special hole events, and more so get your teams together and register early.

The Sportman’s Bash

The Lander Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Sportman’s Bash on Sept. 21. Doors will open at 11 a.m. There will be free food and drink and drawings beginning at noon for guns, bows, gps trail cameras, and more. There will be more than 80 spins on the prize wheel all day long. The cost is $20 and that includes chances on the prizes.

Lottsville Heritage Days

The Lottsville Heritage Day Celebration will be held on Sept. 14. This will be the 8th year that the event will be held at the Freehold Township building from noon until 3 p.m. Bring an auction item and a dish to pass. Meat, beverages and table service will be provided.

New AMVETS Charter

The AMVETS Post 113, Tionesta, was recently presented its AMVETS charter during the annual picnic at AMVETS Post 50 in Sugar Grove.

Assisting in the presentation was Gerry Hawk, AMVETS Department of Pennsylvania executive director; Post 50 Commander Travis Hitchcock; Dept. of PA 1st Vice Jeff VanArsdale; AMVETS Post 113 Commander Tom McCooskey, Post 113 officers, Post 50 2nd Vice John VanDeWark, Past National AMVETS Commander Gary Fry and Forest County Commissioner Norm Wimer.

The new Post is currently holding its meetings at the Coffee Shop in Tionesta. Stop by the coffee shop for more information.

Creative Card Class

Sugar Grove Free Library will hold its monthly Creative Card Class this month on Monday, Sept. 9 from 6. to 8 p.m. We will be creating a Christmas card and a birthday/thank-you card. The cost for the class is $8.
