Youngsville Area News in Brief
Annual Book Sale
and Bake Sale
What do St. Luke Church, Bob’s Garage, and Dr. Pikna, DMD and reading have in common? Why, the Youngsville Public Library’s K-12 Super- Readers, of course. Thanks to their generous sponsorship and continued commitment to all the young readers in our community, T-shirts were able to be provided to all the “Super Readers” who reached the top reading level in Youngsville Library’s 8th Annual Summer Super Reader program.
“This year we had the highest number of over-all participants ever, well over 85 kids” stated Library Director Kristy Wallace. “That also means that this year we had the most ‘Super Readers’ who achieved the top reading level. Since the program began, a T-shirt has been offered as an incentive prize to all participants who complete all six reading levels thereby reaching ‘Super Reader’ status. The Board and I can’t express enough thanks and appreciation for Bob’s Garage, Dr. Pikna, and St. Luke Church for pledging to be this year’s T-shirt sponsors -especially since we have such high numbers of ‘Super Readers’. Kids really do look forward to receiving a T-shirt for all their effort and hard work and we’re grateful that the kids were able to receive them this year, too.”

Paint like the Masters
Recently, a group of ladies gathered at Allegheny Artistry for a fun evening of wine, snacks, and painting. They brought their own choice of wine. An assortment of snacks and necessary painting supplies were provided by instructor Joanne Oviatt. The class was the first in the series called “Paint like the Masters”.
This painting session focused on the history and style of Van Gogh. After looking at photos of his sunflower paintings, the participants practiced drawing sunflowers from different angles. Then, the ladies tried some of Van Gogh’s stroke techniques and color combinations. Although all of the artists painted sunflowers, each painting turned out differently.
“Paint like Georgia” (O’Keefe) will be offered next in the series tentatively scheduled for the evening of Sept. 24. Call 563-4286 for more information.
