BOYS GOLF: Warren 3rd at Region 5 megamatch, 3 strokes off

SLIPPERY ROCK – Three strokes separated Warren from the top of the Region 3 standings on Thursday in the Dragons’ second region megamatch of the season.

Warren was third at 326, three strokes behind Meadville and tied with Slippery Rock, but finishing third in the tiebreaker.

Over the first two region megamatches, Meadville has finished first twice so leads the region with 10 points, Slippery Rock second twice so has eight points, and Warren third twice at six points.

Oil City’s Troy McGregor was medalist at an 18-hole 76 at Oakview Golf Club, and Warren’s Nathan Sandberg was second at 77. Andrew Gignac had a 78.

“I’m always saying the closer you get to 320 – that’s been the magic number over the last (few years to win a megamatch),” said Warren coach Dan Passmore. “It’s amazing how many matches you can win at 320, and how many you can lose at 325.”
