Ruth E. Peterson, 93, of Warren, and formerly of Cobham Park Rd., passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Golden Living Kinzua Valley ACU. Ruth was born November 21, 1919 in Oil City, PA, the daughter of the late Robert W. Thompson and Anna Potter Thompson McIntyre. She lived in Tidioute and Triumph Twp. nearly 40 years before moving to Warren. She graduated as Salutatorian with the Tidioute School Class of 1938.
Ruth and her husband were the managers of Walker’s West Side Dairy Store in Warren. She previously worked at the Chocolate Shop in Tidioute and later worked for Watt Office Supply then at CVS until retiring.
As a young person, she was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Tidioute, and later became a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the United Methodist Women’s group and Bible study groups. Her faith was strong. She loved the choir music and the hymns.
Ruth was a generous, kind person. She loved her family, loved caring for them, and visiting with them, as well as friends and neighbors. She especially enjoyed holiday baking and preparing dinners for special occasions. Her hobbies included knitting clothing items and afghans for gifts.
Ruth and her family greatly appreciate the excellent and loving care given her by the staff at Golden Living and the many friendships made there.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Knapp, and husband Arden (Bucky) of Warren, PA and one son, Douglas Peterson, and wife, Perrice of Russell, PA; a daughterinlaw, Cathleen Dunn Peterson of Springville, NY. Twelve grandchildren, Bryan Peterson, Julia O’Laughlen, Steven Knapp, Leroy Loney, Dennis Loney, Steven Loney, Diedra Loney, Mindy Franklin, Cindy Bearfield, Jeremy Kasaback, Wendy and Jeff Dickey. Many greatgrandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on February 17, 1989, by her husband, Albert G. Peterson, whom she married on July 1, 1939; she is also preceded in death by her son, James Albert Peterson; grandson, Scott James Peterson; brother, James Thompson; and two sisters, Lucile Peterson and Vera Konkle Edeburn.
Friends will be received on Sunday, August 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Peterson Blick Funeral Home, Inc, 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, PA, and for one hour prior to a funeral service to be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 19 at Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Penn. Ave., E., Warren, PA with Rev. Kevin Haley officiating. Burial will be in Swedish Union Cemetery, Triumph Twp., PA.
