Hit and Run. Warren-based state police report investigating a hit and run which occurred at approximately 8 p.m. on August 11 at the intersection of North Main St. and Liberty Street. According to police, an unknown person was backing in a northern direction when they struck the stop sign on the northwest corner of the intersection, the vehicle suffered minor damage and fled the scene. Police said the stop sign was knocked over and damaged from the crash. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call state police.
Indecent Assault. Warren-based state police report investigating an incident of indecent assault which occurred between 7:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. on August 4 behind Uni-Mart. According to police, David F. Slack, 55, Sheffield, purchased several items for two known juvenile females inside the Uni-Mart in Sheffield. The three then went to the picnic table behind the Uni-Mart by the boat launch. The juvenile females were seen by several witnesses lifting up their shirts and exposing their breasts toward Slack. On two occasions Slack was seen passing cigarettes to one of the females after minor physical contact. Slack and the two juvenile females then went into an area concealed by bushes for a short time and returned to the picnic bench with the females continuing to lift their shirts up. A male witness walked over to Slack and told him he had contacted the police and that several people had witnessed the entire incident. Further investigation revealed that Slack had inappropriate physical contact with one of the juvenile females while concealed in the bushes.
Slack was arrested and arraigned before District Judge Glenn Carlson on charges of corruption of minors, indecent assault, and sale of tobacco (furnishing tobacco to minors). Slack was released on $50,000 unsecured bail with the condition he have no contact with the juvenile females. Further Court Action is pending.
