Theft. Corry-based state police are investigating a case of theft by deception that occurred Aug. 6 in Columbus. According to police, the victim received a phone call from an unknown female stating that he owed a late payment on his cash advance loan and that if he did not pay it immediately, he would be arrested by the sheriff’s department.
The victim purchased several pre-paid debit cards and gave the pin numbers to the woman over the phone for payment to avoid being arrested. After buying $1,785.48 worth of prepaid debit cards, the victim realized he was being scammed. The woman told the victim she was a representative from Cash Network America Company in Chicago, IL. Anyone with information is asked to contact the state police in Corry at 814-663-2043.
