Puppet play Sunday

Starbrick Community Church, 168 Weiler Rd., will present a Bible-based puppet play on Aug. 4 at the 10 a.m. service. The play will be presented by the children of the church. It is entitled “The Nobleman’s Son Healed.” Children who visit can be involved in the puppet play. The public is invited.

Discuss black holes

Dr. James LoPresto, a retired Edinboro University professor of physics and astronomy, will speak about black holes and green flash at the Martz Observatory at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6. The observatory is located at 176 Robin Hill Road, Frewsburg, N.Y.

See the Pirates

A few tickets are still available for the Pittsburgh Pirate/Marlins on Thursday, Aug. 8, through the Allegheny Community Center. The bus will leave the CRI parking lot at 7:30 a.m., stopping at Kings Restaurant for breakfast and on to the 12:35 p.m. game. There will be a dinner stop on the way home. All meals are on your own. Call the center at 723-3237 for more information or reservations.

Plan 2014 trips

There will be a 2014 trip meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 3 p.m. in the craft room at the Allegheny Community Center, 42 Clark St. Some suggestions will be available and more suggestions are needed by the seniors. This is an important meeting to plan for the rest of 2013 and all of 2014. No PC’s please.

ACA calendar winners

Allegheny Center for the Arts has announced the winners for July for the 2014 calendar. Linda Gross won first place for her photo titled “Sunset After the Storm“; Todd Cerra won second place for his photo titled “Flag“; and Allan Branthoover won third place for his photo titled “A Little Patriotism.” Photos can be viewed at www.alleghenycenterforthearts.com. People may now send in photos for this month, until Aug. 20. Rules are available at the website.
