WALLACE JEWELL

Wallace F. “Wally” Jewell, Jr., 78, of Edinboro, died July 30, 2013 at home with his family. Born in Warren, PA, on Sept. 25, 1934, he was the son of the late Wallace F. Jewell and Ethel Neely Jewell. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Neely Jewell and James Wallace Jewell, a nephew, Jack Jewell and niece, Rebecca Jewell.

He lived in Bradford, PA and graduated from Bradford High School in 1952. In 1956, he graduated from Lock Haven State Teachers College and taught at Bradford Junior High for one year and Warren High School for 11 years. He taught mathematics and computer science for 28 years at Edinboro University of PA., retiring in 1996. Dr. Jewell received an Associate Degree from Jamestown CC, a Master’s Degree from Syracuse University and a D.Ed. Degree from SUNY@Buffalo. He was very active in Kiwanis as club president in Warren and Edinboro, Lt. Governor of Division 1, twice and Governor of the PA District. He made several trips to Jamaica working on a childrens home in Montego Bay with the Kiwanis. He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and served at Shanksville and “Ground Zero” and for several hurricane relief operations in PA, Florida, Virginia, Alabama and Louisiana. He worked on the switchboard at the local chapter and did Emergency Military Communications. He was a member of the Edinboro United Methodist Church.

His survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara Peterson Jewell, two sons, Scott and his wife, Sandee, and their daughter Emilee of Frederick, MD and Michael and wife Kimberly and their daughter, Bridgette, and son, Ryan, of Meadville; sister’s in law, Eileen Jewell and Ginny Jewell and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a gathering at the Edinboro United Methodist Church, 113 High Street, Edinboro, on Saturday, August 3, 2013, from 2 4:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 4:30 p.m. with Rev. Lisa Grant officiating.
