Mabel “Penny” Pauline Hockensmith, 76, of Jackson Run Road, Warren, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013, at the John & Orpha Blair Hospice House, Warren, PA. Penny was born May 23, 1937 in New Freedom, PA, the daughter of the late Charles and Lillie Sharp Markle.

Penny was a 1955 graduate of York High School. She first discovered her love of traveling while proudly serving in the Air Force as a Stewardess.

While living in Warren, she was employed by JCPenney as a catalog customer service representative. She was a member of the North Warren PresbyterianChurch. Penny enjoyed reading, traveling and R’ving with her husband, Terry, and playing strategy games, such as crossword puzzles and Tetris.

She is survived by her husband, Terry Russell Hockensmith, whom she married December 5, 1980 in Timonium, MD; one daughter, Tara M. Hockensmith of MD and one son, Cory L. Hockensmith of West Conshohocken, PA; two sisters, Fern Humeston of Clinton, AR and Sue Shaffer of York, PA; and two brothers, Royce Markle and Spurgeon Markle, both of York, PA.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters.

Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave. E., Warren on Thursday, August 1, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, at which time the funeral will be held with Rev. Rick Hamrick, pastor, Youngsville Free Methodist Church, officiating.
