Learn a skill

Join JCC Warren Center to learn about a new grant opportunity for those interested in earning a certificate in machine tool technology or welding technology. A free information session will be held Wednesday, July 31, at 9 a.m. at the PA CareerLink – Warren County, 24 Market St., Warren. Employers are also welcome to attend. For questions prior to the event, call 723-3577. The Pennsylvania Targeted Industry Program provides need-based awards up to the equivalent of the maximum state grant award (currently $4,348) or 75 percent of the student’s total direct educational costs after gift aid and employer aid-whichever is less. Awards can be used to cover tuition, books, fees, supplies, and specific living expenses.

Win at bridge

Winners of the Monday evening duplicate bridge game at the YMCA were Joyce Davis and Doug Megill, first with 31; Matt Oram and Ed Franks, second with 29.5; and Gerry Africa and Emily Birgel, third with 28.5.

Fellowship conference

The first Child Evangelism Fellowship Conference, featuring speaker Diane Pomroy, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Pittsfield Otterbein Church, 258 Dalrymple St. A donation of $25 dollars per person is requested. Pre-registration is preferred (but not required ) by Aug. 14. Checks can be made out to Pittsfield Otterbein Church marked CEF in the memo and sent to the address above, or contact Angie at (814) 436-7379 Lunch will be included. Registration will open at 9 a.m. with snacks. Welcome praise will be at 9:30 a.m., and “Children in Crisis” will begin at 9:45 a.m. After a short break, “Leading a Child to Christ” will begin at 10:45 a.m. After lunch, “Foundations for Life” (Teaching Bible verses to children) will be the topic at 1 p.m. The final topic will be “Life-Changing Bible” at 2 p.m. following by a challenge, wrap-up and prayer. CEF – which has been reaching kids for Christ since 1937 – will have a sales table set up.

Back to school special

The Book Cellar in the basement of the Warren Public Library will have a back-to-school sale from Aug. 27 through Aug. 31. Everything will be half off.
