Biddy hoops

The Warren Biddy Basketball League is holding sign-ups for girls entering grades 1-6. The league runs from September to November, with practices twice a week prior to the season and once a week once games start. A charge of $25 will help cover league costs. To sign up, email Lisa Ruhlman at

100-mile race

Warren Area High School graduate Devon Olson placed seventh out of 305 runners in the 2013 Burning River 100 Open Race Saturday, July 27, through Ohio’s Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Olson finished the 20-leg, 100-mile race in a total time of 18 hours, 22 minutes, and 19 seconds on a pace of 10 minutes, 55 seconds per mile.

Volleyball tryouts

Tryouts for the Warren Area High School volleyball team will be held from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at WAHS. Anyone interested must have their completed and signed physical and HIPAA forms, which are available on the school district website (

Golf results

Urban Bires shot a nine-hole low gross of 37 and Bill Kunselman and Roy Bennett tied with a low net of 29 in this week’s Blueberry Senior Golf League. Wayne Swanson, Karl Grosch, and Ralph Gallo each shot a 39 for the second low gross, and Swanson and Grosch tied for second low net at 30. Team scores are as follows:

Mary Gayton’s 45 was good for the second low gross, and her 27 was the second low net. Overall scores are as follows:
