Flip, Jot, Flick
There are still some books left for children that might be interested in entering the August Flip, Jot and Flick creative writing contest at the Warren Public Library. For August the children are supposed to read Deborah Hautzig’s shortened version of L. Frank Baum’s Wonderful Wizard of Oz, then write a creative story based on one of the story characters. Children age five and up can participate. Those interested can pick up a copy of Hautzig’s book and a writing packet that contains directions for the contest in the Children’s Department at the Warren Public Library. Creative writings are due to the Children’s Department by Friday, August 2. The winner of the creative writing will be announced at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, just before the start of the movie at the Struthers Library Theatre. This movie is the original 1939 MGM version starring Judy Garland. The winner will receive a library canvas bag, a movie poster, the movie DVD, and publication of their story in the Warren Times Observer. Contact Children’s Librarian Susan Slater at 723-4650 with any questions. You do not have to participate in the contest to attend the movie. Everyone is welcome.
Warren High School Class of 1958 will hold a 55 year reunion on Friday, Sept. 6 and Sunday, Sept. 7. Friday night will be a meet and greet hot dog roast at Betts Park. Saturday will be a buffet dinner at Holy Redeemer Social Hall. The cost is $25 per person which will cover both events. All notices have been sent out and need to be returned as soon as possible. If you have questions or did not receive a notice, please call Joan Jenkins at 723-7378. If no one answers please leave a message and your call will be returned as soon as possible.
