Jammers win fourth straight

WILLIAMSPORT, PA The Jamestown Jammers extended their winning streak to four games with a 4-3 win on the road Friday night against the Williamsport Crosscutters.

The Jammers struck first in the top of the first. With the first two Jammers retired, Harold Ramirez doubled on a fly ball to right field. Erich Weiss followed Ramirez with another double, bring Ramirez home.

Jamestown starter Dovydas Neverauskas retired the Williamsport lead off hitter in the bottom of the frame but hit Miguel Canelo with a pitch and then served up a home run to Andrew Knapp, his first of the year, to quickly put Williamsport in the lead.

After scoreless second and third innings, Jamestown’s Danny Collins doubled to lead off the fourth and was moved to third on a bunt single by Jeff Roy. After Edwin Espinal was retired on a fly ball, Elvis Escobar brought Collins home on a sacrifice fly.

The tie score would only last until the bottom of the frame when the Crosscutters re-took the lead at 3-2.

Things stayed quiet until the sixth inning. Ramirez singled to lead off the top of the frame and moved to third on a single by Weiss. Collins reached on an error that allowed Ramirez to score and Weiss came around to score on a two-out single to center by Espinal to give the Jammers the 4-3 lead.

Neverauskas pitched the first four frames, giving up three runs, two earned.

Justin Topa, who earned the win, entered the contest in the fifth and fired three hitless innings of relief, walking one and striking out three.

Roberto Espinosa closed out the win with two scoreless innings of relief for his fourth save.

The win over second place Williamsport extends the Jammers lead to four games in the Pinckney Division of the New-York Penn League. Jamestown now sits at 24-13 overall.

Saturday night’s contest between Jamestown and Williamsport, slated for 7:05 p.m., will end the brief two game set. The Jammers will then travel to Auburna two game set on Sunday and Monday before returning to Diethrick Park in Jamestown to take on the Staten Island Yankees in a three-game set starting Tuesday.
