Police issue scam warning

Warren-based state police is warning local residents about a phone scam in Pennsylvania.

According to police, residents have been receiving calls from a male who identifies himself as “Ben Carson”. The caller instructs the victim to go to a local store and purchase a green dot card. The caller then advises the victim that they will soon be re-contacted by phone for further paperwork because they may have won $25,000.

Police remind residents to never give personal information during unsolicited telephone, text or online communications. Residents are also reminded to never give or pay money to “win or claim” money as it is most likely a scam.
