Hall of Famer Leathers dies at 92

Lucile Leathers, of Akeley, from the 2003 Class of the Warren County Sports Hall of Fame (wcshof.org), passed away on Thursday at the age of 92.

A Health and Phys Ed teacher for 30 years – 21 at Eisenhower High School, Leathers was instrumental in the Title 9 movement, passed in 1972, organizing sports programs in the county for girls that included track & field, volleyball, basketball and bowling. A pioneer for girls’ sports, she organized and coached for 25 years.

Leathers and her husband, the late Tom Leathers, built Cable Hollow Golf Course in 1968, and owned the Bowladrome bowling alley in North Warren for over 30 years.
