Golf results

Mike Hawley, Steve Gelotte and Jim Senger shared low gross of 39 and Randy Grant had low net of 30 in Blueberry Senior Golf League play, Monday, at Blueberry Hill Golf Club. Ralph Gallo and Dave Progar shared second low gross of 40, Senger had second low net of 31 and Denny Davis and Dick Huckabone shared third low net of 32.

Hawley and Gelotte had two birdies during play and Bob Buerkle and Gene Covell added one each. Here are the team standings through Monday’s round:

Pete Hofert had low gross of 38 and Ron Owens had low net of 32 in Youngsville Area Senior Golf League play, Tuesday, at Maplehurst Country Club. Owens, Bob Crick, Neil Himber, Dave Dibble, Jim Rose, Hofert, Bob Anderson and John Minavio all had birdies during play.

Conewango Valley Country Club member Jackie Kavanaugh and her guest Pam Smoulder (pictured), captured the 2013 CVCC Women’s Member-Guest Tournament, Wednesday. The duo shot a net score of 62.0 in the nine holes of better ball and nine holes of modified alternate shot format. CVCC member Hallie Dubia and her guest Sue Martin captured the gross portion of the event with a score of 83.

Over 30 softball

Klenowski Law improved to 6-3 on the season with an 11-1 victory over American Legion in late Over 30 Modified Softball League action, Tuesday, at Betts Park. Jeff Young led the winners with four hits, including a home run and pitcher Neal Kent allowed just three hits over seven innings while adding three hits of his own offensively. Andrew Harrington had a three-hit night for Klenowski and Mark Butina, Drew Wilcox and Barry Klenowski all contributed two hits each.

College news

Warren Area High School graduate and California University of Pennsylvania women’s swim team member Kelsey Nuhfer recently earned College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team laurels for the 2012-13 season.

Nuhfer helped the Vulcans earn the team award for the Spring 2013 semester after posting a cumulative 3.46 grade-point average (GPA), which ranked among the top 10 in women’s swimming & diving in NCAA Division II. Nuhfer earned CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention this season.
