All-American BBQ Festival starts today

Bring your appetite to the All-American BBQ Festival at the Warren County Fair Grounds in Pittsfield, which begins Thursday and runs through Sunday.

Melissa Anderson, Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry (WCCBI) director of chamber operations, said five national vendors, a Kansas City BBQ Society cook-off with cash prizes and a judge certification class and more than 50 additional vendors will be at the fair grounds this year.

The Kansas City BBQ Society ribbers will only be entering their ribs for competition; they will not be for sale.

Barbecue vendors who will set up shop and offer ribs to purchase at the fair grounds include Sgt. Oink’s BBQ Company Ltd., Smokin’ Joe’s Hog Wild BBQ, The Swhinery, Well’s Hog Wild BBQ Company, and Aussom Aussies BBQ. The Eisenhower Band Boosters will have hand-scooped ice cream, the Warren County Fair will have its concession stand set up, the Garland Volunteer Fire Department will be selling roasted corn, and the Salvation Army will have funnel cakes.

We’ll have a ton of food,” said Anderson. “No one should be going away hungry.”

Breakfast will be available Thursday through Sunday by 7 a.m. and a kid’s zone with inflatable bouncy houses and a rock climbing wall for kids of all ages will also be set up.

A number of free concerts are scheduled for the festival including the Jeff Fetterman Band on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., The Sauce Boss on Friday from 7 to 10 p.m., Fire and Ice from 2 to 4 p.m., and Jakes Blues from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday.

While parking and admission is free, there will be go-cart races at the motor sports arena. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children to watch the races.

Anderson also encouraged anyone to stop by the WCCBI event information trailer to vote for their favorite barbecue among the barbecue vendors and register for giveaways.

A handicapped parking lot will also be set up just inside the Barton Run gate, she said.

“We encourage people to come out, have a great weekend, there’s something for everybody,” said Anderson.

The All American BBQ festival will also host Austin Manelick from the TV show “Ultimate Survival: Alaska”; Danielle Dimovski of TLC’s “BBQ Pitmasters” and the Travel Channel’s “BBQ Crawl”; and Blair and Sabrena Miller of CMT’s “My Big Redneck Wedding”.
