Warren wins: Blair, Post 135 begin busy week with Legion wins
Blair’s John White and Youngsville’s Cory Craig each went the distance for their respective teams in Monday’s Senior American Legion Baseball League contest. When the dust settled, Blair walked away with a 2-1 victory over Post 658 at Old Legion Field in North Warren.
Blair improves to 2-6 with the win, while Youngsville drops to 6-5 on the year.
The two teams traded scoreless innings until Blair’s bats broke through in the third inning when Matt Hultquist connected on an opposite-field single to score Collin Fantaskey for the game’s first run. Fantaskey made it a two-run lead in the fourth with a two-out single that brought in Mitch Dorunda, who had led off the frame with a double.
Youngsville cut the Blair advantage in half in the top of the fifth inning when Thomas Henry scored on a passed ball. A walk and a pair of singles from Caleb Linkerhof and Henry loaded the bases for Post 658 in the sixth inning, but a hard hit groundball off the bat of Shane Arford was snagged by shortstop Fantaskey, who made the throw to first to end the threat.
Craig struck out 11 batters over his six innings of work for Youngsville, and Fantaskey notched two hits for Blair, which returns to action on Wednesday at Old Legion Field against undefeated Post 135.
